Rosehips get their red-orange colour from carotenoid pigments known as lycopene and beta carotene. These pigments are rich in antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, Catechins, Quercetin, and Ellagic acid. Vitamin C plays a key role in many vital intra-cellular activities.
A rosehip is the rose plant’s berrylike floral cup. It contains the plant’s seeds and it usually ranges from red to orange in colour. Many species, particularly the rugosa rose, produce edible rosehips, which are a rich source of vitamin C.
